KEY TO CODES FOR UNDERGRADUATE MODULAR PROGRAMMES

 

‘P’ RESULT with ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’ or ‘D’ GRADES – Passed

You have passed the module and gained the relevant number of credits for the module.  The normal requirement for the academic year is 120 credits for a full-time student.

 

‘P’ RESULT WITH ‘E’ GRADE – Compensated Pass

You have passed the module and gained the relevant number of credits.  The module mark will normally be between 35 and 39 percent but the Assessment Board has determined in the light of your performance in reassessed work for this module, that a Pass be awarded.

 

‘D’ RESULT with ‘L’ GRADE – Deferred (late and condoned)

The Assessment Board has accepted mitigating circumstances and has DEFERRED consideration of the result of the module until the next Board.  Please contact your Programme Leader for the submission deadline for completed ‘Late’ work and for details of when resit examinations will take place.  There is no mark penalty attached to deferred work.  In certain circumstances a ‘D’ Result, ‘L’ Grade may mean that you have been referred in one item and deferred in another: in this case the maximum mark for the referred work is 40%.

 

‘D’ RESULT with ‘R’ GRADE – Referred

You have been REFERRED in the module.  Please contact your Programme Leader for the submission deadline for reassessment work and details of when resit examinations will take place, (the maximum mark for reassessed work is 40%).

 

‘F’ RESULT with ‘F’ GRADE – Failed

You have FAILED the module outright and you MUST seek confirmation from a Programme Leader whether you should ‘Repeat’ [with attendance], ‘Retake’ [all items without attendance] or substitute the module.  Repeat and Retake modules are normally undertaken at the first available opportunity.  The maximum mark that may be awarded for any ‘Repeat’ or ‘Retake’ module is 40%.

 

‘F’ RESULT WITH ‘I’ GRADE – Failed with No Attempt

You have failed the module outright because there is no record of you having made any attempt at any of the assessments for the module.  You MUST seek confirmation from a Programme Leader whether you should ‘Repeat’ [with attendance], ‘Retake’ [all items without attendance] or substitute the module.  Repeat and Retake modules are normally undertaken at the first available opportunity.  The maximum mark that may be awarded for any ‘Repeat’ or ‘Retake’ module is 40%.

 

BLANK RESULT WITH ‘X’ GRADE – Exemption or Compensated Pass

You have been deemed to have passed the module and gained the relevant number of credits.  In the case of a Compensated Pass (not an exemption) the module mark will normally be between 35 and 39 percent but the Assessment Board has determined in the light of your overall profile, that a compensated pass be awarded.

 

BLANK RESULT WITH ‘W’ GRADE – Withdrawn

You have withdrawn from the course – module not commenced.

 

NOTE FOR ALL STUDENTS

·         Please check that any exemptions you have been granted are shown on your transcript (‘X’ Grade) as this may affect your final award calculation.

·         In order to qualify for the award of an Honours Degree you must pass a minimum of 360 credits (120 credits at Level 4 and 240 credits at Levels 5/6, normally including at least 120 credits at Level 6) and satisfy the requirements of the specific programme you are undertaking.

·         The interim awards of Certificate of Higher Education (120 credits at Level 4) and Diploma of Higher Education (120 credits at Level 4 plus 120 credits and Levels 5/6) are only made to students who withdraw from their degree programme before completion.
